"One of the BEST kept secrets in the world of live performance today." - Michael Blanton, President - BE Music and Entertainment Blues Revue “Woody Russell has crafted a lovely collection of original blues and soul music… appealing guitar tones; his crisp, inventive lines blend funk and blues with Jeff Beck’s fearlessness.” – Tom Hyslop Blues Matters (UK) "There's a fine legacy of Texas blues and Woody Russell is well up there alongside many of his heroes... sounds like the work of a man whose life revolves around his music and he writes and plays well enough to put him well ahead of most of his peers." - Andy Snipper (UK) Hyperactive “A little taste of Americana, Salt is a poetic string of love and loss. With an ear for craftsmanship, this album successfully captures the roots-folk sound often lost in production.” - Dan Cummings Blues Bytes “Russell’s guitar work is exemplary and his vocals alternate between fiery and soulful… a strong composer with a unique perspective.” - Graham Clarke High Bias "Salt has the sound of a musician who has invested a lifetime in sharpening his playing." - Lance Looper The Blues Report “A very good musician, an exceptional singer and let’s not forget Woody’s songwriting that seals the deal for this total package artist.” - John Vermilyea Chart Magazine (CAN) “He's got some powerful, gut-emanating pipes, full of soul and deeply-felt conviction. He immediately drew attention with his intricate finger work. The packed crowd was roaring…eclectic and unique and worth more than the price of admission.” - Editor

![]() Critically acclaimed, award winning guitarist, singer and songwriter, Woody Russell, has released a body of recorded work that spans from the folk infused songwriter fare of his first album, …as simple as that (1996), to his IMA nomination (Album Of The Year) for the “Technicolor Americana” of Salt (2005), to the critically praised blues and soul release, Up Against It (2010). Most recently, he released the “living album project”, Big Sky (2012); an ever expanding compilation of instrumentals focused on his jazz and film music recordings. In 2013 Russell will release, Delicious Days; a new album infused with sophisticated arrangements and harmony more closely associated with jazz. And again, his pop-soul-blues vibe is woven tastefully throughout his first rate songwriting.
"Delicious Days is an album of pop-jazz, blues and soul filtered through my own brand of quirky songwriting. It is as funky and light as it is reflective and thoughtful – an amalgam that I really strive to find in my songs. It's sophisticated, but still, a fun, easy vibe is at the heart of the sound. The songs are filled with a certain sense of romance, longing, searching and ultimately, gratitude. I’d say it is music for people who’ve lived a little, you know, that have some personal history under their belt. Those are the characters who inhabit the songs." It’s also an album that presents, front and center, the solid musicianship of, not only Russell, but a cast of “A-list” Austin based musicians. The playing throughout the recording is focused, brimming with excellent ensemble interplay, as well as, inspired solos. "These guys play very well together," notes Russell. "There is a superb chemistry at work and I’m so excited to let my fans hear this one. It’s my best work yet and, not unlike other album projects, but even more so, I’m putting everything I can - every ounce of faith - into the process and the release of this album. I've hit on a true cross-section of the kind of music that I love to listen to and play – a rare combination for me to fit under one roof, so to speak.” Woody tours Texas frequently, as well as, select North American dates. He's shared billing with artists ranging from Elvis Costello and Richard Thompson to Jimmy Vaughan and Tommy Castro at theaters, nightclubs and major festivals, including the prestigious Newport Folk Festival. Highly regarded as an “exemplary” guitarist, an “exceptional singer” and songwriter of the highest caliber - a "total artist package", Woody delivers seasoned performances with over twenty-five years as a professional musician under his belt. Respected music industry veteran and President of BE Music and Entertainment, Michael Blanton, calls him "one of the best kept secrets in the world of live performance today." Blues Revue offers that, as a guitarist, Russell possesses the “fearlessness of Jeff Beck”.
Woody Russell was a featured artist on Season One of the television series, "Troubadour, TX"; a weekly, hour long "docu-reality" following the lives of several Texas musicians on the road and at home. The program aired on the CW Network across the US in over 20 million homes. The show has shifted focus in Season Two to the Texas country music scene, and WR has no longer been featured. It has also been reformatted to a half-hour program. The TTX website will continue to host all videos and interviews from Season One.
